Angel Flight: A nonprofit organization created by a group of pilots who volunteer to arrange free air transportation for any legitimate, charitable, medically related need. Angel Flight serves patients needing transportation around the Heartland region, and can arrange transportation in other areas of the country in coordination with healthcare organizations.
Assurance Wireless: Keeping up with cancer treatment often requires a phone. Assurance Wireless provides eligible customers a free cell phone and free or low-cost data plans.
Camp Kesem: Camp Kesem operates free summer camps for children who have been impacted by a parent’s cancer. Founded at Stanford University in 2000, Camp Kesem has since expanded to 116 chapters in 42 states across the country, including one based out of LSU.
Cancer and Careers: Cancer and Careers provides information, tools, and support for employees working through cancer, as well as their employers. They offer educational materials, seminars, career coaching, interactive tools for survivors currently employed and those looking for work.
Cleaning for a Reason: Cleaning for a Reason is a nonprofit organization that partners with maid services to offer free house cleaning services to women undergoing cancer treatment.
Job Accommodation Network: One-on-one consulting about job accommodations and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) over the phone and online. Their website features suggestions on how people with cancer can be accommodated in the workplace.
Just Great Lawyers – Legal Resources for Patients: This resource offers a forum to ask attorneys legal questions, and will help connect you with local attorneys if you believe your rights have been violated. Information on cancer survivors’ legal rights regarding insurance, treatment, and employment is also offered.
LouisianaLawHelp.org: This site provides free legal resources and help for the state of Louisiana.
Money Geek: This guide explains your employee rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. It also offers job hunting advice, and recommendations on how to ask for accommodations at work.
National Cancer Legal Services Network: This network helps link cancer survivors with free legal services and educational resources on the legal issues cancer survivors face.
Pilots for Patients: This nonprofit volunteer pilot organization based in Monroe, LA provides free air transportation to patients in financial need who require diagnosis and treatments at medical facilities not available to them locally. PFP provides services to patients in Louisiana and surrounding areas.
Samaritan Center: A Christian organization providing need-based assistance with food, clothing, personal hygiene, and other needs to individuals in the Mandeville area. The website also includes a list of medical and job placement resources.
Southeast Louisiana Legal Services: This non-profit law office offers free legal aid for civil issues to low-income southeast Louisiana residents.
Total Community Action: TCA connects New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana residents to programs offering assistance with food, utilities, financial counseling, youth programs, and other resources. They also offer a credit union.
