There Are So Many Reasons To Quit

  • Tobacco is the single leading cause of disease and death, worldwide, in the United States and Louisiana.
  • Tobacco is the #1 preventable cause of heart disease and stroke.
  • Tobacco causes at least 12 different kinds of cancer, as well as acute myeloid leukemia.
  • Secondhand smoke causes lung cancer in people who don’t smoke. According to the Surgeon General, breathing in secondhand smoke at home or work increases your chances of getting lung cancer by 20% – 30%.
  • More than 98,000 kids now under 18 in Louisiana will ultimately die prematurely from smoking.
  • Smoking costs Louisiana $1.89 billion a year in direct health care costs – and even more in indirect.
  • It costs every Louisiana household $1,212 in state and federal taxes to pay for smoking-caused government expenditures.
  • Tobacco gives you wrinkles, rots your teeth, affects your dating life, and it often makes men impotent.
  • Tobacco can rob you of enjoying your kids, your grand kids, your retirement, your life savings, and much more.
